The session provides an overview of and a background to Project Management within the PMBOK framework. This includes a discussion of Project Management basics/building-blocks and definitions of basic Project Management terms. The session outlines the Project Management Life Cycle and provides a break-down of the Project Management Process Groups which addresses the Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling and the Closing phases of a project carried out within the ten Project Management Knowledge Areas that speaks to the overall Project Integration Management and the systematic management of project scope, schedule/time, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, procurement and stakeholders within a project.

The overview aims to equip the student with sufficient knowledge necessary to approach a project from start to completion; and manage a project within a defined framework which entails the management of the project constraints and resources; including reporting project progress on scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources and risk to the project stakeholders.
